The Plot of Talvar Movie

Talvar movie is divided into three parts, each presenting a different version of what happened on the night of May 15- 16, 2008, when 14-year-old Shruti Tandon (Ayesha Parveen) and her 45-year-old servant Khempal (Sumit Gulati) were brutally killed in their apartment in Noida, a suburb of Delhi. The names of the characters are changed from the real ones to avoid legal issues.

The first part, titled The Story of the Police, follows the initial investigation by the local police, led by Inspector Dhaniram (Gajraj Rao), who quickly conclude that Shruti's father Ramesh Tandon (Neeraj Kabi) and mother Nutan Tandon (Konkona Sen Sharma) are the culprits. They base their theory on the assumption that Ramesh was having an affair with his colleague, and Nutan killed Shruti in a fit of rage, while Khempal was a collateral damage. They also claim that the parents tried to cover up their crime by staging a robbery and a break-in. The police arrest the Tandons and coerce them to confess under duress.

The second part, titled The Story of the CDI - Investigation 1, follows the re-investigation by the Central Department of Investigation (CDI), a fictionalized version of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India's premier investigative agency. The CDI team is headed by Ashwin Kumar (Irrfan Khan), a sharp and honest officer who is determined to find the truth. He is assisted by his junior ACP Vedant (Soham Shah) and forensic expert Arun Kumar (Atul Kumar). They find several loopholes and inconsistencies in the police's version, and discover new evidence that points to the involvement of Khempal's friends, who were also servants in the same building. They also learn that Khempal had a sexual relationship with Shruti, and that he might have killed her after she resisted his advances. They also suspect that Khempal's friends killed him to silence him and then fled with some valuables. The CDI team arrests the servants and interrogates them with a narco-analysis test, which reveals their guilt.

The third part, titled The Story of the CDI - Investigation 2, follows another re-investigation by a new CDI team, after Ashwin Kumar is transferred due to political pressure. The new team is led by Paul (Shishir Sharma), who is biased against Ashwin and his findings. He is supported by his junior ACP Nirmal (Prakash Belawadi) and forensic expert Pankaj (Nikhil Sahni). They disregard the evidence and testimonies collected by Ashwin's team, and revive the original theory of the parents being the killers. They also manipulate the narco-analysis test results of the servants, and claim that they were innocent and coerced by Ashwin. They also accuse Ashwin of tampering with the crime scene and planting false clues. They file a closure report in the court, naming the parents as the prime suspects, but stating that there is not enough evidence to prosecute them.

The movie ends with a disclaimer that the case is still unsolved and pending in the court, and that the real names of the people and places have been changed for legal reasons.
