Narayana Kavacham is a powerful stotra that invokes the protection of Lord Narayana, the supreme form of Lord Vishnu. Narayana Kavacham was taught by Sage Shukadeva to King Parikshit, who was cursed to die by a snake bite within seven days. Sage Shukadeva advised King Parikshit to wear the armour of Narayana Kavacham and chant it constantly to ward off the evil effects of the curse. King Parikshit followed the sage's instructions and was able to attain liberation by listening to the Bhagavata Purana from Sage Shukadeva.

Narayana Kavacham consists of 24 verses that describe the various forms and attributes of Lord Narayana. The stotra begins with a prayer to Lord Narayana, followed by a nyasa (ritualistic placement of mantras on different parts of the body) using the twelve-syllable mantra "Om Namo Narayanaya". The stotra then invokes the protection of Lord Narayana in his various incarnations such as Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Trivikrama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki. The stotra also praises the weapons of Lord Narayana such as the discus, the mace, the sword, the bow and the conch. The stotra ends with a salutation to Lord Narayana as the lord of time and space.
Narayana Kavacham is a very popular stotra among the devotees of Lord Vishnu. It is recited daily or on special occasions such as Ekadashi, Janmashtami, Rama Navami, Narasimha Jayanti and Vaikuntha Ekadashi.
